Job Description:  Keeps school buildings, rooms, and grounds in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, clean windows, dust, vacuum classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, hallways, stairs, office space, and restrooms.
  • Empties trash and garbage containers.
  • Maintains buildings, performs minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and small maintenance activities.
  • Notifies the principal concerning the need for major repairs.
  • Cleans snow and debris from sidewalks and other areas as required.
  • Prepares buildings for meetings and programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Must have current valid Washington State Driver’s License, be trustworthy and safety conscious, and have the ability to work independently with good initiative.  The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is frequently required to stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Terms of Employment:

Salary:                 Per PSE – Salary Schedule- Custodian Step 2 (Per CBA)- $20.57

Hours:                  8 hours per day
