Summary Description:
The RISE UP GEAR UP Program Assistant will work closely with the GEAR UP Site Coordinator and will also work collaboratively with the middle school Principal, counselor, teachers, staff, and other agencies. They will also lead/supervise various after-school programs and events alongside the Site Coordinator. Assist the Site Coordinator with individualizing college planning and preparation for all GEAR UP students. Work with teachers to identify at-risk students in need of academic support services. Accurately document activities for program reporting requirements. Coordinate & Support the class of 2024 graduates. Travel to state colleges to support the class of 2024 students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful program management experience preferred
- Demonstrated skill working with adolescents and/or "at-risk" populations
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred/AA degree or having successfully passed the Washington State Academic Assessment Praxis II ParaPro Test (WASST)
- Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability and experience working and communicating with students and families of diverse backgrounds
- Experience working in an educational setting, counseling, social work, or other related fields preferred
- Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of middle school and high school programs, state and local graduation requirements, and post-secondary entrance qualifications
- Successful experience working independently, or semi-independently
- Successful experience working collaboratively
- Excellent computer technology skills including; word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet research, and the ability to learn and navigate related software
- Familiarity with STEM subjects preferred
- Ability to encourage students to participate and be engaged in the program
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines/timelines
- Expected to model appropriate professional behavior, attend work as scheduled
- Flexibility in work schedule to meet program schedules
- Valid Washington State driver's license and proof of auto insurance
Clearances Required: Criminal Justice fingerprint/background clearance
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in outreach to support the class of 2024 graduates
- Travel to colleges to support the class of 2024 Gear-Up students.
- Active in supporting, communicating, and inspiring the Royal High School 100% graduation initiative
- Work alongside the Site Coordinator to fulfill overall grant requirements and work plan items
- Meet with students one-on-one to discuss career goals and expectations
- Researching and becoming familiar with post-secondary institutions
- Assist students with College Bound application
- Monitor student grades and provide academic interventions as needed to help maintain student achievement
- Become familiar with GEAR UP expected outcomes and assist with and develop strategies to achieve goals
- Meet with parents and students at convenient times as needed to describe the program, provide information, and follow up
- Assist in coordinating and implementing outreach to traditionally non-participating families; this will include evenings and/or weekends
- Implement programs to increase student eligibility and attendance at the post-secondary level (college, technical/trade, etc.)
- Assist in coordinating and recruitment for activities to provide information and support for families such as workshops regarding school/home-related learning activities, appropriate for homework assistance, school regulations,and testing
- Work collaboratively to continue the development of programs for extended day learning (before/after school, evenings, and/or weekends)
- Work with relevant agencies and colleges to provide college planning for students in areas including, but not limited to; career options and goals, portfolio development, personal statements, WOIS, financial planning, and FAFSA assistance
- Work collaboratively with district program staff to coordinate efforts
- Work with the Site Coordinator and Principal to execute education programs to continue student academic development during before/after school and summer programs
- Assist in planning and implementing STEM-related field trips and events.
- Assist in the coordination and recruitment of families for parent meetings and family nights at school
- Maintain necessary records and data for program verification and tracking purposes.
- Design program brochures and publicity to recruit and inform potential student participants and families
- Attend training/professional development to gain knowledge and better understand the role; these training may take place over weekends
- Other duties as assigned
Salary and Contract: $22.81/hr, 24-25 School Year Approximately 107-day contract, upcoming School Years to be determined
Schedule: 7:30 am-4:00 pm
